Here's how the last few months have gone for me...
The drama has been running high for the past few months. Here's the timeline.
8/28 -- Kurt quits Cingular Wireless after 7 years and starts a new job at Infospace. Riding the bus is going to be a bit of a challenge, but all-in-all, life is good.
9/13 -- Infospace announces that they have lost a large contract with Cingular Wireless and will be laying off 40% of their workforce. Yes, forty percent.
9/22 -- Less than a month after starting, Kurt gets his layoff notice from Infospace because the company he left is dumping the company he came to. Last day is March 31, 2007, about 5 1/2 months away. A freakishly long layoff notice.
9/22 to 10/30 -- All the projects Kurt is working on get systematically cancelled and he surfs the Internet all day. Kurt's boss, probably due to insane guilt, avoids Kurt and sees him exactly 30 minutes a week in a useless status meeting. Life has turned into a living hell.
10/20 -- Kurt gets referred to a gastroenterologist because of elevated liver function and finds out that the gastric bypass he had 8 years ago is damaging his liver. If it can't be controlled he'll need to have the bypass reversed. Now he may be facing major surgery and a lengthy recovery about the time he needs to be finding a new job.
10/31 -- Kurt gets a call from his old boss at Cingular Wireless who has heard of his impending layoff. The backfill for his position has just been approved. Kurt's boss desperately wants him to come back and will give him a big raise and bridge his service preserving his seniority, benefits (vacation, bonus, etc...) if he does.
11/2 -- Kurt folds like a cheap suit and accepts the position (once it is agreed that he won't be working 24/7 like he was before) and his first day back at Cingular Wireless (very soon to become AT&T again) will be November 20.
No, seriously. You can't make shit like this up.

I still say you should write a book, you have such a natural way with words, this one is hilarious and cute...and bizarre. LOL love you
Hey Kurt - No kidding - who could make all that up! While it may be a convoluted path, things do have a way of working out for you!
Talk to you this weekend!
Steve
You're the only person I know who could take a job round trip like (coming out much better for it even)!
As for the liver deal, you're in my thoughts about that.
Hope to talk to you soon... if not by TG, hopefully you have a nice one.
I am checking every day for a new post, you have lots to write about now after your great vacation.
Love you
